The WHY behind “The Chosen”
A dear friend and guitar student of mine for more than 23 years, one Friday night, said “Look, I am 77 years old and I am not going to live forever. I want to see you play live once before I’m gone, ok?!”
I said, “Wow, Man! No pressure! From that moment on, I knew that this had to happen. Later that night, I got to thinking that I taught for 31 years and it ended unceremoniously. When Long and McQuade bought Bud’s Music, they gave me a choice between teaching and sales. Due to a recurring repetitive stress injury in my left hand, I decided to do sales. I never had the chance to tell all of the students that I taught over all of these years, how much I appreciate them and enjoyed every minute of teaching them. With a lot of my students, it felt like they became a
part of a very large family. Many of them are customers of the store and it’s always great to see them. I would like this show to be a gathering of this unique and wonderful family, in celebration of the music that we love.
Our Charities: Market Hall and Kawartha Food Share
We wanted to make this a charitable event but it had to be something that we felt strongly about. I feel that Peterborough is full of very talented musicians who never get to really show their skills for lack of venues to play. It’s tough for most musicians to have to pay upfront for these places. Market Hall is a fantastic place to play and we thought that if we could support them, it would be a win-win, musicians helping musicians! By encouraging Peterborough to donate to them, this will hopefully make it more affordable for others to book future shows. Kawartha Food Share is another of our charities because no one should ever go hungry!
Our sponsors: The Wolf, 101.5 fm. and Long and McQuade
Our favourite radio station is The Wolf, 101.5 fm. Besides playing the music I love, they genuinely care about our city! A company is only as good as their people, and they have a lot of amazing people working for them. Speaking of great companies and their people, Long and McQuade has been “instrumental” in making this show happen. After working for them for the last 5 years, I can honestly say that they really care about their customers, and all musicians.
