"In this era of cultural globalization, it is often difficult to notice the great artists coming from our own back yards. We hope the Bright Lights series can help change that."

Bright Lights Series
The Series
The Bright Lights is a series of talks with artists from Peterborough's Greatest 100 in the Performing Arts list. Each event is an on-stage conversation; a blend of anecdotes, conversation and performance in an intimate and animated setting with a knowledgeable interviewer.
Each artist featured in The Bright Lights series chooses a young artist to receive the Bright Lights Award, an educational bursary.
The Name
Some artists on the list date back to the era when Peterborough was known as the Electric City, the nickname that inspired the name for this series. And of course, here at the Market Hall we like to think of artists as electrifying forces, their creativity and imagination fueling our daily lives.
The Award
The Bright Lights Award is an educational bursary awarded to a young artist and highlighted as part of our Bright Lights Series. The recipient is chosen by the featured artist of each of our Bright Lights Shows and a small cash award is presented.
Previous recipients (with the featured artist) have been: Nicky Gibeault (Drew Hayden Taylor), William Lamond (Evelyn Hart), Jacob Abrahamse (R. Murray Schafer), Sophia Darling (Bill James), and Saskia Crescentia (Joe Hall).
